Charity & Partnerships

We are committed to supporting the charities and community initiatives that make a tangible difference across the North-east of Scotland.

Our involvement goes beyond financial support with active participation, leadership, and long-term commitment. We work closely with a range of local and national charities, from established organisations to smaller community-led initiatives, helping strengthen the places where our clients, colleagues, and families live and work.

As a Principal Partner Practice of St. James's Place, we are also part of the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation, which supports charities nationwide through long-term, sustainable funding.

Charitable Support

Friends of ANCHOR

We have had the great privilege of collaborating with Friends of ANCHOR for 12 months and are proud to continue this partnership. Friends of ANCHOR help assist patients within the ANCHOR unit (Aberdeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy) at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Their founding aim being: ‘to provide the best possible treatment, care and support to patients’.

Friends of ANCHOR have achieved many milestones such as funding for research, improving patient care and supporting the NHS. These remarkable achievements are instrumental in ensuring patients receive exceptional care during treatment, while driving advancements in technology towards the goal of finding a cure.

Since our relationship with Friends of ANCHOR began over a year ago, we have taken part in events and fundraisers such as a 72-hole golf challenge, a Skydive and hosting our own Charity Golf Day.

As a Practice, it has been an honour and a delight to support this incredible cause and meet so many wonderful people. We remain committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals facing challenging illnesses and we look forward to continuing our efforts in 2025.

Words from Friends of ANCHOR Chief Executive Sarah-Jane Hogg:

Friends of ANCHOR provides emotional and practical support to cancer and haematology patients from across the north of Scotland.

Thanks to supporters like Gary Walker Wealth Management, we can take care of the ‘big little things’ for patients and their families.

Working closely with the NHS, we can offer a range of services, from a listening ear and home comforts to a range of complementary therapies such as bedside massages and mini manicures.

Friends of ANCHOR’s volunteers are ready to greet patients as they arrive for their appointments and also spread some cheer with the daily treat trolley in the out-patient departments.

The charity also funds pioneering research and the latest equipment, as well as opportunities for staff development – all helping to ensure NHS Grampian is at the forefront of cancer care.

We’re hugely grateful to the team at GWWM for throwing themselves into fundraising for the cause. From taking part in runs and jumping out of planes and organising golf days, they have done a wonderful job of representing FoA – with more exciting fundraising planned for 2025!

Friends of ANCHOR’s admin costs are covered by founding sponsors Balmoral Group, meaning every single penny raised by GWWM’s staff and clients goes directly towards helping patients.

Turning Commitment into Impact

Following his own experience with cancer, Gary Walker made a personal commitment to give something back.

That commitment led to a series of fundraising efforts, including a charity evening and endurance challenge, bringing together clients, colleagues, friends and supporters to raise funds for UCAN and Friends of Anchor.

Together, the charities are leading a joint £2.5 million appeal to establish the SURE Unit (Swift Urological Response and Evaluation) at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The unit will help improve diagnosis times for urological cancers by enabling people with suspected cancer to be seen more quickly, with scans and diagnostic tests carried out during a single hospital visit.

The fundraising effort has been a collective one, supported by family, friends, clients, colleagues and the charities themselves. What began as a personal experience has grown into a wider initiative that will make a tangible difference to others across the region.
